Adam
C. Weitz, Esq. (a.k.a. Phofo) is a lawyer, music producer and
DJ based in New York. He received his B.A. from Fordham University, majoring
in Media Studies, with an emphasis in Journalism and Film. He served as
the Editor-in-Chief of the Fordham University student newspaper, The
Observer, for three years. In 2000, he received his Juris Doctor from
Syracuse Law School. While at Syracuse Law, he served on the Law School
Senate, was a contributor to the Syracuse Law & Technology Journal, and
acted as student attorney for the Public Interest Law Clinic. As his alter-ego
Phofo, he creates quirky blends and frothy cocktails of spy-jazz, bossa
nova, classic hip-hop, soul, and new wave served aflame in a giant Tiki
mug. Alongside the legendary Prince Paul (De La Soul, Handsome Boy
Modeling School), Phofo produced MC Paul Barman's "Paullelujah"
LP . The critically-acclaimed album enjoyed a feature in TIME Magazine
and Rolling Stone gave it four stars, naming it one of their Best Albums
of the Year. Phofo has also enjoyed collaborations with ubiquitous indie
pop and underground hip-hop favorites like MF Doom (Gorillaz, Dangerdoom),
Mr. Dead, I am the World Trade Center and My Favorite. His music has appeared
in ad campaigns for Red Bull, Kyocera, Spike TV, and And-1 sneakers and
he has moonlighted as a music consultant to NPR's "This American
Life". In addition to music production, Phofo is a practicing trial
attorney and copyright scholar specializing in derivative use issues like
sampling. He was a contributing writer to Created in Darkness by Troubled
Americans: The Best of McSweeney's Humor Category (Knopf/Random House)
and is the editor of samplinglaw.com. Most recently, he composed the score
for the animated TV series, "Sushi Pack", currently airing weekend
mornings on CBS. He also was the composer and music director for the feature
animated film, Los Campeones de la Lucha Libre. He is now recording his
own full-legnth album, writing a book about derivative use, and spinning
loungecore, big beat and go-go hits traversing the globe.
